Capcom reveals latest sales information for several titles

Capcom has released their latest sales figure for several of their top franchises, including Street Fighter and Monster Hunter. I have taken the relevant details and written them up below:

  • Resident Evil 5 - 9.5 million (7.2 from original, 2.3 from the Gold Edition)
  • Resident Evil 6 - 8 million (6.8 from original, 1.1 million from re-release)
  • Resident Evil 7 - 3.7 million
  • Street Fighter V - 1.7 million
  • Dead Rising 4 - Below 1 million

I included the Dead Rising info because it has performed well below expectations, and is a sign of hope for a potential return to Playstation for the series.

Capcom expects Resident Evil VII to sale 10 million units

In an official English translation of their financial results briefing, Capcom revealed that they expect Resident Evil VII to sell around 10 million units in lifetime sales.

Here is the relevant paragraph:

The lifecycle for games is growing longer, driven by ongoing digital sales; as a result, Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6 have each sold more than 7.5 to 10 million units cumulatively (including catalog and re-release sales). As such, we will work to achieve 10 million cumulative lifetime unit sales for Resident Evil 7 as well.

Capcom 2016 Financial Results Released

Capcom posted their financial results for 2016 last night, and it seems that things are not going so well for them.

Their largest release of the previous fiscal year, Resident Evil VII, sold 3.5 million units across all systems. While that might sound good, Capcom stated it had underperformed as they were expecting 4 million in sales.

The PS4 rerelease of Resident Evil 6 also pulled in 1 million in sales, which Capcom described as a steady performance.

Capcom Vancouver Director leaves studio

Coming from Capcom:

It is with much pride and some sadness that we announce Joe Nickolls, our inspiring Studio Director, will be leaving us for a new role at the end of the month. Capcom Vancouver would like to take this opportunity to thank Joe for his hard work and commitment in helping to build a strong and prosperous game studio!

Over the last two years, Joe’s stewardship of Capcom Vancouver has been exciting and growth-filled, with the successful launch of Dead Rising 4 and groundwork for future unannounced projects. We have also seen the studio’s transition to Unreal Engine 4, ramping up mobile games talent, and our upcoming exciting move to a larger new and improved studio here in Burnaby. All this and more was in large part because of Joe’s leadership. The talented team at Capcom Vancouver will continue to work hard to build upon this foundation and deliver amazing new gameplay experiences.

In closing, we extend our heartfelt gratitude, respect, and praise for the role Joe has played in the success of Capcom Vancouver. We would all like to wish Joe good fortune, prosperity and continued success.

Capcom renews trademark for Deep Down...again

The above screenshot is from the United States patent and trademark office, and it shows that Capcom renewed the Deep Down trademark on February 9th of this year.

It's hard to believe that this was actually one of the first games announced for the PS4 4 years ago, and we still don't have any information on it. Maybe something will finally happen at E3?
