An Update!

Hello everyone! I am making this post to give you all an update on the future of the site, and what has been decided. I have spent the last week thinking very hard about what I believe the site needs, as well as what I think I need. I also had a great conversation with Cortjezter last night, and that really helped me solidify my plans.

For starters, I'm not going anywhere. I love this site, and have a difficult time imagining not being a part of it. I can't promise that I'll be here forever, but I am happy to announce that I won't be leaving anytime soon.

This, however, doesn't mean that everything will stay the same. The biggest change is that I will no longer be posting news stories. While I know a lot of you come here just for the news, it obviously isn't working. GoingSony needs to be growing faster than it is, and that means trying something different. I also have to start thinking about my own financial future, as well as developing my skills further. Posting news stories all day doesn't allow for me to explore other opportunities to make a living, or to try out new things here on the site.

I understand that these changes will mean that I lose a lot of you. But I hope that, at the very least, you understand why I had to make that decision. It is possible that I can bring back the news stories in the future once I am more financially stable, so don't give up hope just yet. If you do plan on leaving the site, all I ask is that you at least follow GoingSony on Twitter. I plan on becoming much more active there, and will even tweet my opinion regarding smaller bits of news. And if I ever bring back the daily stories, I will make an announcement there to inform you.

But enough with the bad news, lets talk about what you can expect to see here on the sight soon.

Editorials - I have decided to write a lot more articles here on GoingSony. But they are going to be different than the Lgndary Thoughts you know. Some of them will simply be opinion pieces, where I briefly talk about my feelings regarding a recent announcement or decision in the gaming industry. But others will be fully fledged articles. They will be much longer than what you are used to, and will have a lot more detail. I hope to write articles that I can be proud of, and I still have a lot to learn when it comes to writing. Not posting news stories will allow me to work on that, and improve the quality of my writing.

Streaming - Not having to post news stories daily will also give me the time to do some video game streaming. Streaming should be easy enough to do, and it will be a great way for me to connect more with fans of the site. I want to do this right, so it may take some time to figure out the best days, etc. to stream. But I hope to get started very soon.

Video content - A lot of you messaged me saying that you would like to see me take a shot at video content. And after speaking with him on the phone, Cortjezter has convinced me that I have the perfect voice for some type of video content. I won't be able to do a podcast, at least not yet, but I would like to try a weekly video where I go over the biggest stories of the week. Maybe I could even include trivia, or other fun things. The videos will easily be the most challenging content that I do, as I have no idea where to begin, but it is certainly something you can look forward to.

Those three pieces of content will be the bulk of GoingSony for the time being. I have a couple more ideas, like bringing back giveaways, but for now you can look forward to more articles, streaming, and videos. I am also going to be working on a getting a Patreon set up for those that want to help out.

Having said all of that, I want to be clear about something. All of this was decided upon in the last week. I have a lot to learn about the logistics of the new pieces of content. So it may be awhile before I get into the flow of things, and am producing new articles and videos at a steady pace. I hope that you all continue to be patient with me as I get everything figured out. I can't give a specific timeline now, but I can say that my first article will be about the death of Paragon, so please look forward  to it!

To close, I just want to thank everyone again for your patience and understanding. And if anyone has any other suggestions or questions for me, please don't hesitate to say something. I can be reached at the GoingSony gmail account, or on Twitter.

The Future of GoingSony (UPDATED)

An important message that everyone should read

UPDATE: I just wanted to touch base with you all, and let you know that an update is on the way. There are a couple of things I need to do before saying anything, but it shouldn't be more than a couple of days. Thank you all for your kind comments, and your patience.

As of this month, I have been working on GoingSony for 4 years. I have posted thousands of news stories, and hundreds of Lgndary Thoughts.

And it isn’t working.

Road Trip!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to give a heads up that I am going out of town to visit my sister this weekend, and will be on the road most of today. I will do my best to post what I can, but things may be a little bit slower. I will also do my best to get the Lgndary Thought posted, but I can't make any promises there. This week has been a little slow anyways, so hopefully I'll be able to get everything.

Thank you all so much for your understanding, and if you spot anything that I haven't posted yet, please send it in!

This Guy Are Sick

Hey guys! Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I have not been feeling too great. Over the weekend my throat had been a little scratchy, and last night it developed into something much worse. I'm not able to go to the doctor, so I don't know exactly what it is, but my best guess is strep throat.

My plan for today is for this to affect the site as little as possible. With any luck, nobody would even have guessed that I was sick. But I still wanted to say something just incase.

If anyone sees any stories that I have missed, please shoot me a message and I'll get it up right away.

Thanks everyone for understanding.

GoingSony Server Maintenance at 6PM ET Tonight (Update)

UPDATE: ...and done. All URLs should redirect to https now. There's still some more work to do to get the site 100% over to SSL, but that'll be implemented over time through this evening and Sunday. If you've made it this far, you should be golden. Though there may be times when the site logs you out due to my tweaks so... sorry. Hit me up with anyone experiences issues.

Hi people.

T27duck here with a quick heads up.

The server GoNintendo and GoingSony is going to head into a maintenance period a little after 6PM ET. Hopefully I'll be done with my work no later than 7PM. The site may be unresponsive or just flat out broken until I'm done.

If all goes eventually well, the plan is to switch the whole site over to SSL. You may be logged out of the site and will have to log back in when the maintenance is over.

Feel free to hit me up on Twitter @t27duck if you have issues after the maintenance is complete.

Quick server work happening

Hey everyone. T27duck here with a quick site update.

I'm going to have to do some quick changes to the "Internet tubes" connecting goingsony.com to the server. There may be periods of time when the site is not reachable. If that happens, just try again later. Eventually everything will update and it will be smooth sailing from that point.

New Site Feature: Customizable News Filters

Now, control the torrential firehose of news as you like!

A new site feature has been recently launched that allows you to better tailor your news experience. Are you tired of reading rumors? Want less of a certain analyst in your life? Maybe you really really don't want to see comics from this one place in your feed? Now, you have some control.

Go to edit your profile; the link is in the navigation bar atop the site. See the image below (Step 1) for reference.

Then, click on "Custom Filters" from the various options on the left. See the image below (Step 2) for reference.

From there you will see a form where you can customize your news experience while logged in. You can set the main page to filter the content it displays by categories, tags, games, and title content. You'll even have your own custom RSS feed.

A couple things to note:

* This feature is still relatively new. Most, if not all, bugs should be sorted out, but some could still creep up. We are notified automatically of any critical site errors and will try to fix them as soon as possible.
* Your filters only apply to your special RSS feed and the main page of the site. They will not apply to forum topics, notifications, or viewing stories by category, tags, games, etc via other methods.
* You will always be able to view any story if you know the URL.
* False positives and negatives can happen. What you see or don't see is completely dependent upon the story author accurately titling stories, setting categories, tags, games, etc. If you ever notice a mistake, feel free to use the "Fix this story!" link on every story..we'll even give you an assist credit for helping out.

Thoughts? Comments? Complaints? Let me know here or shoot me a PM.

Finally, a quick PSA:

Did you know? - If you're tired of seeing comments from certain users, you can make them disappear! Just click the little eye icon with a slash through it on one of their comments and that user won't show up anymore! That user will also not be able to reply to any of your comments nor send you PMs. You cannot use this feature on moderators, story authors, or cortjezter, but T27duck is fair game should you lack the mental strength to simply ignore him the old fashioned way.

Cheers and tears,

~cortjezter & t27duck

Lgndary Thoughts - What Are You Playing?

Plus an update!

My week long nightmare is over. I am not 100% settled quite yet, but I am moved, and I mostly have everything together. Unfortunately, I am in a temporary house until I can find one of my own, so I will have to do all of this over again eventually. Either way, I just want to thank everyone for their patience during this period. I tried to post to the site as much as I could, but I know it was nowhere near enough.

For the time being, however, expect things to normalize. I will also be moving to improve things as much as I can in general, as well as start working on getting the ball rolling on more original content for you all. Like always, any kind of feedback is highly encouraged as I experiment to see what works best for GoingSony. Having said that, I would like to ask you all something else. What are you playing?

It has been quite some time since the last time I did this, so no one has any excuse not to share! As always, I will start with Final Fantasy XIV.

I have not had time for the past few weeks to play much of anything, and that includes Final Fantasy XIV. But I have worked hard to keep raiding on our normal schedule. We are currently working on Arm of the Son, and I am happy to say that our progress has been incredible. I know that many groups on my server spent months trying to clear it, but after just a few days, we have already got the boss down to 25% of his health. A clear should happen any day now!

I have also been working hard to continue practicing Street Fighter V. I still have a lot of work to do, but I am proud to say that I won my first ranked match just last week! I was afraid to even try for a long time, but I am glad that I finally took a chance.

While I have been working on my usual games, I also started Hyper Light Drifter over the weekend! I have not been able to make much progress, but I am loving the game. The difficulty reminds me of Dark Souls, and the adventure nature of the game reminds me of Zelda. I am also shocked at how dark the game can be. Characters talk in pictures, and some of them cane rather graphic. I’m not complaining, it just feels weird seeing that kind of content in a pixel form.

That is all from me today. Like I said, thank you all for your understanding. I am going to be working harder than ever to make sure GoingSony grows into want I know it can be. Be sure to let me know of any ideas you have, and be sure to tell me what you’ve been playing in the comments below!

Moving Day!

Just a quick update here. I am moving all day today, and maybe some of tomorrow, so I have been tied up. I am going to try and post just as much as I can, but I ask for your patience and understanding while I work through this process. Thank you all so much, things should be back to normal within the next day or so.

Lgndary Thoughts - An Update

The $20 PS Store code will be sent out shortly!

Last week I made a post asking everyone about what kind of direction they would like to see GoingSony take in the future. The feedback was unbelievable, and I want to thank everyone so much. I feel that I have been reinvigorated with a new drive to push harder, and make GoingSony everything I know it can be. Welcome to Lgndary Thoughts!

Change does not happen over night, at least not all of it. I did get some good feedback, and have had time to reflect on things myself. Things aren't going to change drastically quickly, a lot of things take time, but I do want to give an update on a few things.

The first is regarding Lgndary Thoughts. As of today, they will no longer be daily, but they won't be weekly either. By making Lgndary Thoughts daily, I was backing myself into a corner, and that prevented me from doing my main job, but also from putting out quality content. My main goal is to remove myself from that box, so that I can have more freedom to do what I think is best on a day to day basis. To be clear, I plan on writing a Lgndary Thought whenever I feel it is appropriate. That could still end up being every day at times. But if I have no clear topic, or if there are too many news stories for me to find the time to write one, I won't. I hope this doesn't disappoint too many people, but I strongly feel that it will be better in the long run.

Speaking of removing myself from restrictions, I will no longer be holding a monthly game giveaway. Having the giveaways once a month made it very difficult for me. For those that don't know, I actually pay for all of the giveaways, with the exception of a couple where the developer provided a code. Because of this, I could never really afford to give you guys something special, and it often didn't interest many people. By having a giveaway whenever I am able to, I will be able to save up for something that great that will garner a lot more interest.

Those are the only things that are going to be changing immediately. Well, that and the quality/quantity of post that I make. But there are other developments. I have spoken again with my friend about a comic, and while I can't promise anything, we will be starting to work on that in the next couple of weeks. There has also been a fairly significant development with a potential podcast. But that is much further out.

Again, I just want to thank everyone for all of their ideas and support, it really meant a lot to me. But don't stop yet! Please continue to submit ideas, new stories, and feel free to critique the way I do things. All feedback is welcome! That is all from me tonight, I'll be back in the morning!
