Progress report on the PS4 version of Terraria

The developers for Terraria have been spending the last few months working hard to rebuild the console version codebase, as well as update it to 1.3. And it seems like their progress is going very well!

Here are a few bits of info they shared regarding their progress:

  • Our work is progressing on-schedule, and we are really pleased with the progress thus far!
  • We are quite close to moving to Alpha and beginning the rigorous testing/QA process in partnership with our friends at Re-Logic.
  • Target Timing for release of Console 1.3 remains Q2 2017.

Terraria Surpasses 20 Million Copies Sold

Coming from the official forums:

Greetings, Terrarians!

We wanted to take a few moments today to share and celebrate a pretty big milestone with all of you: as of the end of 2016, Terraria has surpassed the 20,000,000 copies sold mark! Since it's launch in May 2011, our 2D sandbox adventure has come a long way - and we owe so much of that to the amazingly strong and loyal support of each member of our community. To say that we are ecstatic about how our little game has grown - in content, in quality, and in success - is putting it mildly!

We wanted to share a few fun facts about how Terraria has evolved over time below, but before we get to that, the entire team would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all of you for making all of this possible. It has been a pleasure to have all of you along on the journey thus far, and we are really looking forward to continuing down that path. Terraria is a game - and a franchise - that has so much life left in it, and we cannot wait to share those plans with you in the months and years to come.

Lgndary Thoughts - Breaking New Ground

Earlier this week a new Terraria was announced. As a huge fan of the original, I can’t wait for Terraria Otherworld. Interestingly enough, however, this is not Terraria 2. What could this mean for the future of the series? Welcome to Lgndary Thoughts!

First off, I’d like to point out that the developers saying Terraria Otherworld is not Terraria 2 basically confirms the existence of Terraria 2. I’m also thinking that if they felt the need to clarify that, it means that Terraria 2 will somehow be different than Otherworld. Here is my guess: Terraria is a big game about exploring, finding, and building. It has a ton of areas, and items to find and craft. Terraria Otherworld is not a sequel to this idea, and instead will be a smaller experience. While Terraria 2 will be a true sequel to the original experience.

What do you think? Where would you like the series to go, and what kind of advancements would you like to see the developers make? Let me know what you think in the comments below!
