Earlier this week, a boxart for a PS4 slim appeared online, and then ended up being unboxed, and booted up, all within 24 hours. I don’t think I have ever witnessed something go from a complete unknown, to being turned on in somebody’s house before. But while the new PS4 is neat, something more interesting may have come out of all of this. Welcome to Lgndary Thoughts.
One of the reasons why many believed the PS4 Slim leak early on is because of a leak that appeared a couple of months ago. Someone claimed that they worked at Playstation manufacturing facility, and they talked a little bit about what they had seen being made there. That leak wasn't talked about much at the time because there was no way to prove what was said, but the PS4 Slim leak has given the claims a lot of validity.
The alleged manufacturing worker drew a picture of what he claimed was a smaller PS4 being built at his factory. And the drawing looks strikingly like the console that leaked. Now, this could have been luck, or he could be being deceptive with the other two items mentioned, but they are still worth talking about.
Along with a smaller PS4, the Foxconn worker also said a much bigger, and heavier, PS4 was being built. I think we can all assume that this is the PS4 Neo. Nothing interesting there. But the last thing he talked about, is very intriguing. He claims that he isn't working on this directly, but that he has friends who have worked on a “PSP like device”.
My first thought is that it is the upcoming Nintendo NX. But as many have pointed out, it is far too early for Nintendo to have started the manufacturing process. And while I still believe that Sony working on any kind of handheld is very unlikely, it isn't completely outside the realm of possibility.
For the sake of the argument, I am going to assume that this is not a PS Vita 2 or any kind of brand new system. I believe that if this is already being manufactured, it can’t be anything other than a Vita refresh. Even still, I believe the Vita could benefit a lot from getting a small update. The first thing I would want them to do is make this system more remote play friendly. Remote play is great, but I have never used it for more than a few minutes on the Vita due to the lack of certain buttons. A second set of triggers, as well as clickable thumbsticks would do wonders for remote play.
There are plenty of other things that I would like Sony to add to the PS Vita, but if they are going to release a revision, I can’t imagine it would be for anything other than to improve remote play. But like I said, this is just a rumor, and a very sketchy one at that. I wouldn't bank on Sony revealing any kind of handheld, but it is still fun to speculate about what they could do. Let me know in the comments below what you would like to see in a possible revision for the PS Vita!
