Yes, I’m using my Mii on this site, but since Home is a bit off in the future, it’ll have to do.
I wanted to make an official post for all those who do/did/have visited the site, since we owe you an explanation and an apology. It turns out that the majority of our original staff lined up to bring you Sony gaming news fell through, leaving only one poor soul to try and do it all. Don’t let RMC on GoNintendo fool you; it’s not as easy as it looks, so instead of overloading one person to bring you a few scattered posts, we’d rather do things right and just hold off altogether while we retool the roster.
So we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and to those who feel especially let down; we definitely share the sentiment. In the meantime we ask you to hold tight; we’re going to try and get some damn fantastic people in here to bring you all that is Playstation. People passionate about the subject, and dedicated to the task at hand. People who want to not only bring the news, but bring the heat in an online match with you, the people who give us something to do in the first place.
We’ll be back as soon as possible…it really does pain us to see such a great opportunity go on hiatus, especially as E3 approaches! If you have any suggestions for our future coverage–either about the written content or the type of personality you’d like to see–drop me an email. If you or someone you know would be a good candidate for volunteering time and talent, also send me an email. While the news may go on hiatus, the community and discussion continue on our boards; in fact they could use some activity, and this might be a perfect chance to get more involved there if you haven’t already.
We really do appreciate every visitor, and look forward to coming back stronger than ever! –cortjezter & the GoingSony Team
Sony sold a total of 2.3 million of the consoles in the first three months of this year to take the full-year total to just shy of Sony’s target of 9.5 million units. Sony had originally forecast sales in the year of 11 million units but three months ago revised to the more conservative target when it realized it wouldn’t make its original estimate.
Some consolation for Sony will be that its PlayStation Portable business now appears to be on the right track following a lackluster debut. Shipments of the handheld gaming device came in ahead of target at 13.89 million units. Sony had been anticipating shipments of only 13 million consoles in the year.
The additional levels will appear at random in freeform mode if you set your difficulty level to 2 or 3. The difficulty level is represented by the bars at the bottom right of the loading screen between freeform levels, and the difficulty for the next level can be set while the next level is loading by pressing left or right on the d-pad. Levels are picked randomly from all levels in your “gallery”, “portfolio”, and user created levels. Remember that in freeform mode, levels that have not been cleared are selected first.
Yahtzee reviews GTAIV in his usual snarky way…Me, I eat this up. As for my GTAIV experience, I’m almost done, but damn am I tired of the games frequent “man dates” and the combat system that frequently makes me more profane than the game itself. Still? Pretty damn great.
Starting tomorrow, you can buy new character models for Hot Shots Golf at the PlayStation store for just 99 cents. That’s about $3 cheaper than they were going for in Japan.
* Each character will be available for purchase over the PSN at .99 USD.
* Alex skill level will be intermediate; Gloria’s is expert.
* Both characters will be available to purchase on the 15th.
Perhaps some of you are not aware of the most recent GameTrailers debacle, but it goes something like this: a new racing game called GRID got its chance at a video comparison on their site and from the video posted, the 360 was implied to have more dynamic and compelling footage. The PS3 version seemed like a prettied-up last-gen borefest. However! GameTrailers used PS3 footage for both sides of the comparison. Watch the above video, ripped from their site with some added narrative, to draw your own conclusions then tell us what you think.
Well, you can rightfully assume everyone and (well, probably not) their mother is playing GTAIV, making the release list for this week consist of a whopping…one…game.

Over the last couple of weeks, PlayStation Universe has had multiple opportunities to sit down and talk with the big man over at EA, Peter Moore. As Moore is an ex-Microsoft employee, we’re sure a lot of you felt that this may result in a lower quality product for the PlayStation 3 in some grand conspiracy by Microsoft to shaft Sony’s users. The end result of that conspiracy may have looked evident after The Orange Box debacle, but has never truly been further from the truth as Moore has told us personally “I absolutely love the PlayStation.” This came in a music-intensified environment in New York with his arms skyrocketing out in exclamation as he made the claim. It felt genuine – it felt real.
Er…well, yeah. I wouldn’t expect him to say anything different!
Well, you won’t be surprised to hear the game earned a 10/10 in UK Official PlayStation Magazine. Of course, GTAIV was given a 10 by some reviewers as well, and while it’s an excellent game…10? I don’t put any faith in numbers. So here’s a quick blurb from the article and you can read more by following the link below.
Every question posed and loose end dangled since Metal Gear first introduced stealth gaming to the world in 1987 finds closure here…. Even by the series stratospheric standards, MGS4 is a remarkable high point…. As a fan of the series I was expecting closure. What I wasn’t expecting was the game’s commitment to framing that closure with so many new ways to experience the series’ ‘evade or die’ core values.
Kaz Hirai talks about the first year of PS3 development and the consoles “baptism by fire”:
“I think there was some confusion as to what PS3 was initially – some of the third parties didn’t understand and they wanted to scale back a little and see how things went before they really put in their resources,” said Hirai.
